My DeakinTalentCONNECT profile contains many brief summaries about me and my current and past work experiences, my achievements and qualifications, my career goals and personal branding. Also on DeakinTalent, I have connected and followed communities that are of interest to me and reflect my skills and career values. The communities I connected with are:

CISCO Systems

I am very familiar with CISCO and CISCO UCDM within my existing job roles and responsibilities.  I connected with this community in particular as CISCO describe themselves as determined to “change the way the world works, lives, plays and learns”(CISCO 2018). This statement is of value to me as I would like to implement great change to the world – making it an efficient, easier and safer place. My skills and abilities consist of teamwork, brainstorming, innovation, and hard work, which is what the CISCO community is looking for (CISCO 2018).

Revolution IT

Revolution IT have experienced how customer relationships, profitability and brand loyalty are enhanced through understanding the quality of technology. Their specialist offer knowledge of security testing, software training services and many more other skills. My interests in IT include security and, application and software development. By connecting with this community, it can further my knowledge and skills in these areas of my interests. They also describe themselves as world changing, which is a high value of mine I wish to deliver in the future (Revolution IT 2018).

Computer Science & IT

As I am studying a Bachelor degree in Information Technology, connecting with the Computer Science & IT community can be very beneficial by connecting with students with similar interests, skills and career values. The community encourages us to focus and explore the work involved in our dream job roles, as well as expanding our career options and development to secure the job roles that reflect our skills and interests (Computer Science & IT 2018). This is of value to me as an already existing IT employee; I want to expand my career options and develop more skills and find many more interests in IT.

Digital Literacy

Connecting with Digital Literacy will give me the necessary skills and awareness to securing my career goals, as well as building my own skills and abilities. Digital Literacy describes their role as crucial in the IT world, as a necessity for everyone involved. Digital Literacy mentions “85% of supervisors say Microsoft Office Specialist certified employees are more productive because of their certification” (Digital Literacy 2018). I have high knowledge in Office 365; however I’d like to extend my knowledge in this area so I am well-recognised to future employers. I connected with this community to gain the necessary skills to become an IT professional.

Experience and Employment Expo

Attending the Experience & Employment Expo will be very beneficial for me as I can connect and network with others. It is an activity based community where the event is held to connect with many by socialising and sharing ideas (Experience and Employment Expo 2018). I can find others to socialise with, that share similar interest, skills and values. Connecting with this community online also has forums where other members, who attended the event, post which is helpful for if I missed anything. Files are also uploaded, of sampled resumes and cover letter, which helps with improving my skills to become employable (Experience and Employment Expo 2018).
