TIMELINE
My Timeline reflects my career development experiences and the activities I intend to undergo to assist with expanding my career options.
Experience 1: Attend Build your Employability Workshop
Attending the Build your Employability workshop will give me insight on how to successfully gain employment, by learning from successful students and how they used their skills. Also engaging in on the Q&A session will help with any unexplained answers. This is a great learning experience to learn how to enhance my skills and my profession presentation when I am applying for a job (Deakin University 2018a).
Experience 2: Professional Association – Becoming Part of the New Motorola Trial Radio Project
To enhance my knowledge, training and skills in IT, I hope to involve myself more in big and small projects in my workplace by applying research, performing duties, making professional decisions, communicating effectively and working collaboratively to implement new and suitable technologies and computational approaches (Sophie Mckenzie, SIT124 Exploring I.T, Deakin University, Module 1 Activities, 28 March 2018). By becoming part of a project it will enhance my professional profile, training, management and organisational skills. The project I have chosen to undertake is the introduction of the new Motorola Trial Radio Project to present to the plant field. The project involves working with Finance, Supply and Logistics, Maintenance and Production. Ultimately undergoing this project, it rewards me by gaining the skills I lack and also recognition in my workplace by my manager and co-workers.
Experience 3: Create a blog about Lifestyle
I wish to combine my interest in Lifestyle with the IT skills I have gained. By creating a blog I can express my personality, interests and IT skills into one. This will be a great personal and educational experience by learning website design and development, writing and organisational skills and creating a community. It is a way to enhance my skills, gain training and expand my networking skills. Starting a self-project like this will also enhance my skills in application development, which is of interest and a skill set I wish to use in the future in a workplace and outside.
Experience 4: Work Based Learning unit
I have chosen to enrol in the unit, Work Based Learning, in my second year of study. This will be very beneficial for me as I gain an extra 1 Credit Point towards my study and I will get the opportunity to undergo a project in my workplace, where I can improve my skills in project management, organisation, time management, interpersonal and employability (Deakin University 2018b). This particular experience will also help with my career development as I will gain recognition and reward for participating in work projects and as a unit at Deakin University.
Experience 5: Volunteer as a Cloud Student Mentor
Volunteering as a Cloud Deakin Student will be a great experience to assist with career development, as this job involves leadership, communication and organisational skills. It is also a great achievement to add to my resume for future employees to view. As a mentor that means I get to help and guide others, expand my network, develop new skills and career supporting experiences (Deakin University 2017). This career development experience will help with my future career goal of becoming an IT Cyber Security Manger as it involves management and leadership skills.
In my Timeline, I have listed the units I will be enrolling in over each trimester. The units consist of the core IT units, my chosen major of Cyber Security and my chosen minor unit of Application Development. The selection of units reflects my interests and career goals. With this range of units I will gain knowledge and experience from different sides of IT, through completing assignments, theory work and practicals.
